Leech Lake Fishing Report 8-12-19

August 12, 2019 by Leech Lake Guide Service

Where the wind blows the fish will show! That has been the name of the game for our Leech Lake Fishing guides this past week. Without the wind the lake has been tougher to catch fish. Our most active fish have been eating in the mud and are coming up with small leeches attached to their mouths. Paying attention to these little things is part of what makes your guide successful. Two different presentations have been putting fish in our Leech Lake charter boats.

Crank Baits: Run these guys over the weeds and along the edges to find the active fish. Shoot for 1.8-2.2 Miles per hour and 80-110 feet back. Perch and crayfish colors have been most productive in 8-12 feet of water. We prefer to run the Berkley Flicker shad or Rapala shad raps but Hot-N-Tots have also put nice walleyes boat side.

Crawler rigs: Running Spinners with crawlers has also been productive but a little more cumbersome with all the little perch in the lake right now. Our Walker MN Fishing guides have been working the same areas and the same depths with the spinners. However, It appears that they are hitting the spinners more so in the low light periods.

The common theme this past week is using green and brown colors with an occasional day that pink is hot. Don’t get discouraged with the small perch as the walleyes are mixed in with them.

We have a few days open for this month but are starting to book into September. We are also taking reservations on our Ice house rentals too. https://leechlakeguideservice.com/contact-us/ To call and book, Don’t wait!

Leech Lake Fishing Report 8-5-19

August 5, 2019 by Leech Lake Guide Service

Working for our walleyes and covering ground has been the name of the game for our Walker Minnesota Leech Lake Walleye Guides. The water temps are in the high 70s and that has made the walleyes slow down.

We have been targeting walleyes in any where from 7-22 Feet of water with the most productive area being about 11-13 feet. Running spinners with bottom bouncers and crawlers has out shined pulling cranks so far. Wind swept shorelines and the goose flats near goose island have been good for us as well as the Walker Bay narrows.

We did have a large storm come through this morning and do some damage. We received 2 inches of cool rain in a short time so hopefully that cools the lake down a bit.
